The rules
Why it works in a pub
Under the Gambling Act 2005, premises with an on-sales alcohol licence in Scotland have an automatic entitlement to two gaming machines of category C or D. You notify your licensing authority and pay the fee. You do not need a separate permit for those first two.
If you want more than two, that is a Licensed Premises Gaming Machine Permit from your local licensing board.
Category C is the ceiling for a pub: £1 maximum stake, £100 maximum prize. That is set by the Gambling Commission, not by us. Clubs can go higher, because a different machine category is open to them, and if you run a members’ club rather than a pub you want the club page instead.
We will tell you what you are entitled to before you commit to anything, and we will site the machine so it complies.

Common questions
How many fruit machines can a pub have in Scotland?
Two, automatically, once you notify your licensing authority. Both must be category C or D. More than two requires a Licensed Premises Gaming Machine Permit from your local licensing board.
What is the maximum jackpot on a pub fruit machine?
£100, on a category C machine, with a maximum stake of £1 per play. These limits are set by the Gambling Commission and apply across Great Britain.
Do I need a licence for a fruit machine in my pub?
Not a separate licence for your first two machines. Your alcohol premises licence carries the entitlement. You do need to notify the licensing authority and pay the prescribed fee.
What happens if the machine breaks down?
Call us. Engineers are based across Scotland and repairs are covered by the weekly price, with no call out charge.
Can I change the machine if it stops earning?
Yes. Game swaps are included. If a title has run its course we will change it.
